Why a container

A shell that was built to be abused

A shipping container is engineered to carry nine more stacked on top of it and to cross an ocean in weather. That is the structure of your house before anyone touches it. Corten steel does not rot, does not host termites, and does not care what the wind does.

Finished like a house, not like a box

Spray foam insulation, a full electrical package, real cabinets, real countertops and modern windows. Inside a finished unit, nothing tells you what it used to be. Outside, the corrugation stays where it looks good.

A price on the page

Every model on this site is drawn, specified and priced. You can see what a 20 ft studio costs and what three containers cost before you speak to anybody, which is not how buying a house usually goes.

How it works

Five steps from the model you like to the day it is set on your ground.

  1. 01

    Pick a model

Eight of them, from a 20 ft studio to three containers on two levels. Each one is drawn, specified and priced on this site. Start from the one closest to what you want.

  2. 02

    Check the ground

Where it goes matters as much as which model you pick: the access a truck needs, how level the ground is, and what your own city and county allow on a lot that size. Those rules differ between Utah cities, so check with yours before you order. Tell us what they say and we will build to it.

  3. 03

    Change what you want changed

The published price is the starting point. Move a wall, add windows, change the finishes, add a solar and battery package. You get a drawing and a written price before anything starts.

  4. 04

    We build it

Cutting and reframing, spray foam, wiring and plumbing, then cabinets, flooring and trim. You get photographs as it goes, because a build you cannot see is a build you worry about.

  5. 05

    Delivered and set

It arrives on a truck and is set on the foundation or piers your site needs, then connected to power, water and waste. You walk in the same day.

The questions everybody asks

Before anybody spends this much money they want to know where it can go, what it sits on and whether it will be warm in February.

Is it warm enough for a Utah winter?
Every unit is spray foam insulated, walls, roof and floor, and the models carry a mini split for heating and cooling. The sheets say comfortable year round and that is what the insulation package is for. Tell us where it is going and we will tell you what we build into it.
Where can I legally put one?
It depends on the city and the county, and in Utah it varies between them. Some treat a container home as an accessory dwelling unit, some as a manufactured home, and some will not allow one on a given lot. Zoning and permits are between you and your jurisdiction, so ask them about your address first. Once you know what they want, we will build to it.
What does it sit on?
Piers, a slab, or a foundation, depending on the ground and on what your jurisdiction asks for. A container carries its load at the four corners, which is what makes the simpler options possible. The Teton is different: it stays on its trailer.
Can it run off grid?
Every model is built off-grid ready, and solar, battery and water systems are available as a package. Off-grid ready means the unit is wired and plumbed to take those systems, not that they are included in the starting price.

Tell us where it is going

Tell us the model you like, what you would change, and what your city has told you about building on the lot. We will come back with a drawing and a written price. Homes start at $62,500.
